Chart for rat and mouse feeding sizes for BPs?

MightyPython Sep 08, 2003 09:17 PM

I was wondering if their is a chart out there somewhere for ball pythons and feeding sizes they can handle? Like, it could recommend size of prey (mouse or rat) depending on the size of the BP, etc. I have a 26 inch BP right now and would like opinions on that as well. I fed him a large adult mouse last week but wonder if that was enough or not. Would like to get into feeding him rats since I hear they are more nutritious than mice, so recommendations on rat sizes for a 26 inch BP would be appreciated. This all all f/t of course, if that even matters as far as size is concerned. Thanks!

Ball pythons can generally handle some pretty big prey. (There have been discussions about that on here before.)
Generally the rule of thumb is to look at the widest part of your snakes girth, and find a prey item about that big around.

exactly, when your snake gets done eating you should see a lump in his stomach, if you don't notice a lump a few hours after eating upgrade size of meal next time.
