I use newspaper for alot of my collection, but for my hogs I use aspen. They can burrow in aspen & its alot cheaper then carefresh.

We use aspen for the hogs and and corns. Newspaper for the cages that have sliding doors.
We had been using Harlin aspen but the price skyrockeded this year. Trying a brand called Nepco aspen, we don't like it.
The hogs really like to burrow.

very nice pics. It seems that the terrain does not differ much at all from West Texas /Eastern NM area where I'm at.

What river is that?

Any in situ hog pics?

thanks

Wonderful, Dan! Imagine a skateboard w/ the pattern on the bottomof the turtles shell. I loved the C.c. mormon too. I may have asked you before, but do you keep any of those? Thanx for the info on the scake too. Merry CHRISTmas & Herp on!

I usse aspen for my adults, newspaper for my hatchlings. They do like to burrow. My hatchlings just hide between the sheets of paper.

Carefresh for dry areas, sphagnum for humid. My Western spends 99 per cent of her time in the Carefresh, but when my Madagascan isn't climbing or hiding in the fake plants he tends to seek out the sphagnum, so I may just discontinue the Carefresh entirely with him. For dry-climate hogs, though, gotta love Carefresh. No splinters to worry about and any dirty stuff that I spotclean can be flushed right down the toilet.

For the most part I use aspen, but also will use carefresh when I run out of aspen bedding, and I'm too lazy or broke to hit the feed store because we have a big bag of it for our pet rat. The aspen is $13 for a huge (25-30lb) bag that lasts for months.
