Pro Exotics, FR, Anyone? Ackie Gestation Period?

O_S Sep 08, 2003 09:31 PM

I've searched high and low... But nothing. Anyone know the average gestation period for Ackies?

We've got verified breeding as of yesterday

This is going to sound rude, there's no getting around it.

Thousands of people have successfully bred ackies. Not a single person is willing to divulge information on the average gestation period of the Yellow Ackie.

Why would I want to be the first to share this, once I figure it out for myself?

No one can answer your question.
Some people have ackies lay within a week or two, other have them lay in a few weeks.
How do you know that you caught the first copulation, maybe its the third or fourth?
Nesting, health, stress, cagemates....so many variables can affect when ackies lay.
Good Luck

I have to agree with chondrodan on this one.
I see my Ackies mate all the time, you really do not know which mating has been successful, there are too many variables.
At this stage dont get too concerned by the gestation time
get more interested in providing suitable laying areas etc.
Monitors dont keep a diary, only us humans.
Good luck

See - that's why I asked for an average. Maybe I should have asked for a larger window. You say a week or two, or maybe even a few. Where I come from, a few is three. So.. are you saying one to three weeks? Or more, or less?

If enough people were willing to share their experiences, I'd be able to come up with my own opinion on when to expect eggs. I have a hard time believing every just has eggs one day.

I've refined my guesstimate to 2-4 weeks average gestation, depending on temperature and stress.

In the meantime, I'll keep up my routine of weighing the female every few days, and watching for steady weight gain - and hopefully a dramatic weight loss.

It's not magic and sorcery. All animals have a gestation period. It may vary some, but for the most part - it averages out to a certain window.

Thanks for the help.

You want to weigh the female every few days???
Won't that scare her into absorbing those eggs or becoming eggbound from the stress? Pregnant females are kinda emotional, you know.
Why don't you wait, like we all do, and then you'll see how soon your conditions in your home, induce her to lay. Doing is knowing. Be a little more patient. She's a living thing, not an egg machine.
