bought a ball that is het for sunglow

katiehfnr Dec 13, 2008 07:34 PM

ok i bought a ball. a cute little male, i appropriately named Monty. the dealer told me he was het for sunglow. i have corn snakes this is my first ball python. i do not see any "sun glow" morphs here. was i duped? well i guess u can't really say dueped because he was only $25 thats what also makes me think that its not true. but im just curious what yall think

Well, in the cornsnake world a Sunglow is a Amelanistic and Hypomelanistic snake. I guess the equivalent in the BP world would be an Albino Ghost. So unless you were lied to, your snake might be double het for ablino and ghost. But its not called an Sunglow, simply an Albino Ghost. But chances are, for 25 bucks, you were duped. But hey, 25 bucks aint bad for a normal. I wouldn't count on him being het for both traits. Maybe one, but not both... Just my opinion anyways.

used to describe a Albino Hypo, not a lot of people use that term. Hopefully he does turn out to be Het for something!

.....the one guy using it wouldn't count...LOL....HA!

....there are ALOT of morphs, crossed morphs and all that are really not gonna turn out looking good when they are made.....yet people are trying to make alot of them?....why I do not know.....

examples?

(spider pieds? , pastel albino, ghost albino, pinny pied , etc etc....)

All I can say about your list is that you must have a very narrow view of what looks good. What is wrong with a spider pied? Its a high white snake with a spider head, very interesting IMO. I hope to produce these one day myself, but to each his own. When have you seen a "sunglow" ball python? I have looked for pics because this was an interesting cross, but I haven't come across one yet.The pin pied was also a very nice looking animal, you just must have something against pieds I guess.

I think "paradox" albinos look like crap, but I would not bash someone because they liked them. If i wanted to buy an albino, I would want it to look clean, not dirty, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so what can you do!

I'm with Jhoye, most if not all of the pied crosses except for the dreamsicle and axanthic pied have been less than exciting and a huge disappointment in my eyes. I won't be crossing my pieds into anything except maybe my pewter or super blast (just to see).

axanthics

again..as kiddies they are cool and black and white --ish...

as adults they are ugly normals......

good to make snows.....cheaper to make leucies now adays....?...wierd huh....

......makes me shake my head every time I think of the price some people actually paid for some "new" morphs just a handful of years ago.....$$$$$$$$$

sad......for them......good for every thirteen year old that is now trying to be the next big ball breeder....

I'd have to agree. Axanthics are the coolest looking babies around, yet the adults tend to turn kinda ugly. It's a shame really...
In my opinion, leucies are cheating. How a super form of a mojave can produce a pure white snake is beyond my understanding. Get 2 mojaves, and in one generation, you can have leucies. It doesn't even seem fair.
I've seen a lot of ugly pieds, and have never really liked them. The only pieds I kind of like are medium whites or the axanthic pied (which will probably get ugly with age).
Real shame about the spider. One of the best looking bp's in my opinion, yet theres just something not quite right about them. It could almost be disturbing. Did we bring this upon ourselves when we play god? I'll probably pick up an Enchi for my next bp, instead of a spider. Shame.

you want spider replacement just get a pinstripe

low white pieds as adults look like pastels...saw one at Chantilly...swore it was a pastel at first...like 4 foot....pretty, real low white

Enchi....I just got one......had to for the price.....since Pete got them a couple years ago for what 10G and year ago or so some were offered at 1G and I paid like 20% of that...LOL......sad for them.........pretty one too

....oh....super mojave is super mojave...really wouldn't call it a leucy usually....don't care what they say...it has color....and I like it that way.....saw a couple that were the purplish color (like the head usually) but they had it ALL OVER the whole body, pattern visible and all.....thats actually what I hope I get some of........

think super phantom yet lighter and a whole lot cheaper.....

jyohe Dec 15, 2008 07:32 PM

why waste the pied gene with mixing it with another pattern morph when there are so many color morphs to mix it with?

...why mix spider into any line and mess it all up and create more retarded head spinning snakes that slam the glass then the mouse/rat?.....(that's a HA! too)...*(but unfortunately true as true)....(3,,,yes I have spiders and am making more...GOD please help me for it....!!!!!!!

.pin pied???......pieds have a striped effect to the normal portion of the pattern....not sure as I said why a pin would make it better...

.albino paradox and other paradox....some are beautiful.....some are butt ugly......I want at least one someday....why not......maybe a paradox super mojave?......they seem to pop up alot........(albinos...yellow and boring and I still love them?....I have a bunch.)

......the list was short cause I didn't feel like actually thinking about the good and the bad crosses and reasons...both lists could be looong if we think about it...and as you said...we'd all have different lists with what we think is nice and what we think is ugly.......

.....pieds.......they're all different........cool....

...have fun

The Sunglow Ball Python is an Albino Ghost, first produced by Kevin McCurley from NERD in 2003.
According to Kevin in "The Complete Ball Python": "This mutation appears as an attractive albino with contrasting orange pigmentation and various degrees of blushing throughout the pattern...We initially hoped that this...Albino Ghost would be as impressive as sunglows in other species. However, the end result has been less dramatic in comparison" (The Complete Ball Python, page 147)

I wouldn't say that. My het albino male was only 35 bucks. Perhaps his/her snake is het albino as well. Seems to be the mostly likely morph...

No telling how reliable the source was for this animal but I sold a het albino male for $25 years ago. I bought him as a possible double het albino and Jolliff axanthic but only had the females to prove the albino part. I couldn't find a local buyer and had to ship him and the shipping was much more than the snake. That being said I would think most for sure double het males would still be fairly valuable but maybe the albino and hypo combo would be an exception.

katiehfnr Dec 15, 2008 12:55 PM

i dunno if this is relevant or not but his brow sots on this sides turn yellow when it gets to his belly. maybe he just ment that. cuz at my pet store had some balls and they didnt have the yellow to the belly. idk.

jyohe Dec 17, 2008 08:01 AM

yellow can show up anytime and anywhere on any ball almost......

...but it does make them prettier....

.
.
.you got one het sunglow?.......you would need to breed it to an amel then a ghost the next year to prove it's het both,,,or get another het sunglow.....

just breed it to the one you have or want...albino or ghost..

......het for either of these is like soooooooo cheap now...
