supplier of newts for PetsMart

llyncilla Sep 08, 2003 09:35 PM

I'm trying to track down the supplier of the PetsMart store that sold me my newt. The mananger told me that a company called "ceegrum" (sp?) down in Fl supplies all the PetsMart stores in the southeast. If anyone has any information on this supllier or any information on how I may find out how to contact them, please let me know. I'm trying to trace the origins of my newt.

I don't know but I want to ask what kind of newt you bought from them... I remember seeing some kind at a PetsMart in Daytona, but I can't remember the species.

Anyway, I don't know about the breeder but it's likely spelled Seagram or Seagrams... also Segrams. Good luck!

They sold them as japanese fire belly newts but I think they were actually chinese fire belly newts, as they had smooth skin. My newt died, so this has become less an inquiry than a headhunt. Living creatures should not be treated this way. They solf my newt for roughly three bucks; whatever small profit they made off of his life could not possibly be worth it.

I've tried searching for all the different phonetic spellings that I could think of. I contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Service because I'm assuming that they have to have a permit to sell the animals. Thanks for the input-- I just hope like hell that it's not the Seagrum liquor company. I wouldn't put it past them, though.

Lol, I doubt it will be Seagram as in the liquor and tonic guys, but who knows

Anyway, I'm pretty sure those are the ones I saw as well. I just remember they were small and black with some red dashes/blotches on them. If you do find out the company, please let us all know here. I live in Florida so it's always good information to have.

Also, consider that the PetsMart be just telling you that to get you off of their back, or that an employee was confused and maybe gave you the name of a dog breeder or something. Just to make sure, go to another PetsMart in your area and see what they say. And good luck!

different petsmarts do get stuff from different places..the store managers have a pretty wide clearance to order from whom they wish....this is why some stores have such poor quality animals and some have very healthy stuff...believe it or not many petsmarts DO buy cb stock from basement breeders.

i think i send you this name on another forum/list
but i'm pretty sure it its seagrest farms in gibsonton, florida
they are one of the largest aquarium fish wholesalers on the continent (so be careful, as i am sure they have well funded legal counsel)

maybe i shouldn't ask this (and if the answer is, well, soething bad, maybe you should just contact me privately to answer) but why do you want to track them down?

cheshireycat Sep 27, 2003 10:36 PM

I figure that you're talking to the other person, but since it's a reply to me I'll answer.

Personally, because someone had a bad experience with that breeder/vendor, and I live in Florida and go to shows, I feel safer having a name and being able to research them incase I ever come across them and want to buy anything. I just want to be an informed buyer, basically.
