Suggestoins on Boas?

ski_rush Dec 14, 2008 10:11 AM

Hello All:

I am looking for suggestions regarding the purchase of a new boa. I've owned a boa before, so I understand the husbandry part of owning one. I'm wondering about suggestions as for size. I am not considering balls or kingsnakes, because I prefer the look of boas much better.

But, I'm not looking to get a snake that is going to be big enough that it will require rabbits for food. The biggest I'm prepared to feed it would be f/t jumbo rats.

If I went with a male columbian would I be ok? I've had a Hogg Island before, and I'm not too keen on them because it ended up being the meanest snake I've ever seen...I traded him.

Your suggestions are much appreciated.

I have quite a few Boas actually and none of my Boas eats rabbits. I used to feed rabbits but I haven't now for about 12 years. Just rats of various sizes. So no need to go to those smaller generally nasty little Boas. Big robust and beautiful Colombians, Peruvians, Surinames, Brazilians... you name it. They all do just fine on rats.
