Need a little advice...

Joe_M Dec 14, 2008 01:49 PM

We were hit by this crazy ice storm Thursday night in the northeast. Trees were broken in half like match sticks everywhere which in turn ripped down power lines and broke a lot of utility poles. I was out of town when the storn hit and couldn't get back until Saturday night. I now have a generator hooked up for power to the house. My snakes that I was not planning on cooling (milks, hogs, and a corn) were cooled down to about 55 degrees when I got home.

My question is should I keep them cooled for a while now, or slowly bring them back up to temp?

Thanks for any and all recommendations.

I bet two days at 55 wont make much difference. They may not eat for a few days though. Those milks arevery bright,How old are those ?

I agree with Doug.. 2 days at 55 should not be a big issue and if I was not planning to hibernate them then I would warm them back up.

All of my adults go down in the winter, but I keep a bunch of heat packs on hand and I have a large Igloo cooler with a bunch of snake bags ready to go just in case we lose power in the winter and i need to keep my younger animals that are not being hibernated warm for a couple of days.

Always be prepared! Obviously, I was a boy scout..

Der,lol. JK, realize that snakes dont have perfect conditions in the wild regardless of home range. If they have been kept "up", some real low temps will cease digestion and may induce regurging. Its a bad thing to put em down from there(if you hadnt planned it previous)because their system isnt cleaned out.
By the way, being the least observant news person around, the Boston area didnt get much at all of that storm, strange how bad you got it....must have been one of those super-cell storms eh? My buddy in N.Brookfield says his place is a MESS, lots of flooding in Hudson....weather is here, wish you were beautiful.

Thanks Jeff. It's pretty bad around here, trees broken and branches down everywhere, downed powerlines, utility services ripped off homes.

Gotta love generators and wireless internet cards!

By the way, weather is HERE and you wish I were beautiful??? LOL
