First time Boa breeder

dzbreptiles Dec 14, 2008 09:29 PM

Hello all. This is my first year breeding Boas and I am hoping this is a good sign. I have been breeding my Salmon Hypo Pastel male to my Orangetail Pastel female since early/mid October. She's been swelling up for the last 3-4 weeks. Tonight she's laying inverted. Any opinions or comments. Thanks Jeff

P.S. The male is out on a break while he's in shed.

Leave him in there! He doesn't need a break to shed.Goodluck with that breeding!

Thanks. I pulled him out yesterday morning. He shed in the afternoon. Eat last night and now he's back in. Jeff

Just my experience -- When my female did that I thought it was a good thing. Turned out it wasn't. That breeding failed. I believe she was being kept too warm. Just a guess on my part. What temps are yours being kept at?

At what point did you pull the male jsc?

After he lost interest. His junk may have been fried.
Temps just never dropped like they should have.
I may have taken him out too soon, but the time seemed adequate, going by the female's previous delivery date and the male's birth date.

Thanks for the reply. The Ranco is set at 91 degrees with a /- of 1 degree. She scans at 88.5 which 88 was my target substrate temp. Moving all of the aspen off of the heat the PVC bottom scans at 95 - 100 with the heat on. Ambient temps are from low 70's over night to 78 today. South west FL. What are you going to do. I guess I will see what happens. Jeff
