bird proof now!

I have wanted to put the hatchlings out -1.5 years in the laundryoom, on the folding table... for some time. But we have cattle egrets that eat ANYTING. so, we took pvc, fastened it to the shed and draped it w/bird screening. But the best thing that we did was take white plastic sheets, cut them to 18" tall, secure the sheets below the bricks. You can buy rolls of plastic from roofing material stores. NOW, nobody is climbing out. And the little guys have been out for 2 days.

... we did was take white plastic sheets, cut them to 18" tall, secure the sheets below the bricks. So the whole pen is lined with an 18"wall of plastic. The old wall was the inside of the bricks. We took in a wayward Eastern who could climb. But not now. You can buy rolls of plastic from roofing material stores. NOW, nobody is climbing out. And the little guys have been out for 2 days.

Ahhhh it looks so warm and sunny there, and the sight of non-dormant lush tropical plants, and then I look out my window here in Iowa and I am depressed again. Oh well we can't all live in a tropical paradise, you're so lucky

You are so full of baloney.
You love that winter weather!
And NEXT time you do plan a trip to Hawaii, write me before you arrive. I want a visit to my turtle village. /p

I have blue herons who will eat my babies, as well as raccoons so my outdoor hatchling pen has to be totally covers-even the sides. But yours looks like it will do the job nicely Tess

Hi Tess, I have a question for you but will post it w/it's own subject after responding to your post. It is always a thrill to see that the local celebrity has replied to my post (I used to work in the film biz, therefore I truly know a celeb when I see one!)
Anyway, we have little that effects our turtles here. We used to live in raccoon territory and it was very different. I once built a chicken coop on 4' metal stilts and they still got in. I used to spend more on raccoon protection from my fruit trees than the tree's cost (not to mention the cost of gopher proofing...)
Today I found a butterfly that had hatched out inside the tent.
I just thought of another question about toads, so. thanks again for post.
