Second ovulation? Opinions needed...

ilovemylizard Dec 15, 2008 02:43 AM

This female had (what I thought) was a very obvious ovulation on December 9th...

The swelling had gone down since then, and I was just waiting for her POS shed...

Then walked in tonight, to find another, pretty large ovulation going on... So I really don't know...

Has anyone seen this before, two ovulations close together? Is it possible the first massive swelling was not an actual ovulation?

Whatever is happening, I sure hope this is all a good sign she is gravid with lots of babies. She is Stella, my 50% Suriname het albino, mother of the '08 Roswell litter...

The father is an unrelated 25% Suriname het albino male from Boamorph...

Don't ask me, but didn't someone (Jeff maybe) say that 2 distinct ovulations were possible? Right side/left side? Don't know the time interval between.

Hi Heather,
In 1999 I had a large Peru boa do the same thing, and she produced 11 babies and 3 slugs.

I beleive that they can and do sometimes release "eggs" out of the overies at different times.

Best of luck.

In my only breeding ever (disclaimer) last season, I experienced the exact same thing. Two very obvious and distinct ovulations only several days apart. Had 29 live babies with no stills or slugs.
Best of luck to you!

Hi Heather,

Boa females have two ovaries. They can ovulate together or seperately. You had two seperate distinct ovulations. It is just how it goes sometimes and doesn't seem to have any bearing on the course of the gravid female.

Best of luck this year
