i have an opportunity to make a purchase. can anyone explain and possibly post an example or two of " het pied markers " and are they a fool proof way to know if a snake is het for pied or not.

From what I know, they are an indicator, not written in stone. I just purchased a het pied and he has the markers, although I've seen alot better markers on some. My gf even has a male with those so called "markers" that look better than the markers on the actual het I have. If I can find a female het to breed them with I'll know for sure if hers is het. I wouldn't hold my breath though. Anybody else want to get in this one?

Oh btw, look through the classified ads on this site, you might find a really good picture of the "pied markers".

i stopped by his store to take a few pictures which i put into a Youtube vidio. ( just for clarification, he received the snake from someone who could or would no longer take care of it for whatever reason. i am not sure what he paid. he was told by the previous owner it was purchased for 400.00 and that it was het for piebald. i have told him to see if he can aquire the paperwork. )
There was a discussion about this very topic not too long ago. Some het pieds have the markers, other don't. Nothing is guaranteed unless you prove them out through breeding. Documentation would help, if it was reliable. My 2 cents.

The pic of the black lines up the side of the belly on the lower section of the snake is a "pied marker". Like others have said it is no gaurantee of a snake being het pied. It comes in handy when someone produces a clutch of poss. het pied, if some of the babies hae these "markers" it could be an indication that they are het pied. You do find ch balls with these "markers" and I think people have bred some of the marker animals and they turned out to not be het while others have. Your best bet would be get 100% hets from a reputable breeder.
The breeder I bought my pied from said that markers are not 100% accurate. They have hatched 100% hets with and without markers, as well as normals with "markers". It really a crap shoot. I have never hatched any myself, so i am just repeating what I was told.

I have yet to hear of anyone breeding a ch with the "markers" and proved it out to be a het pied. If you know of anyone please let us know

There is a guy who produced a pastel pied starting with a markered presumed normal that turned out to be a het pied. He was actually one of the people who didn't put much stock in the markers until that. They may not be 100% but there is a strong tendency for het pieds to show. It’s further complicated by some non het pieds with similar markings. But I think it’s still very useful when deciding which possible het pied females to keep and which to sell as normals.

I have a 50% het caramel here that has the "het pied markers"...His first clutch threw 2.1 (and only the male had the markers),his second clutch yeilded 2.3 and this time two females had the makers...So I'll know what's really going on with him in ohh..two or three years? LOL

Het pieds can have "markers" - some will not -- normals can have het pied markers - some will not. Unless you know who produced it and that they'll stand behind their product -- I'd consider it nothing but normal until proven otherwise.
Good luck!
