Snake not eating???

rellim Dec 15, 2008 06:43 PM

Hello all. Recently my 4 year old male boa has stopped eating with no obvious reason. He had been eating between 3 and 4 mice (live) a week. I did not change anything about his habitat and he suddenly stopped eating. This has gone on now for about a month. Does anyone have any suggestions to get him to eat or ideas about what might be wrong? Thanks ahead of time.

He is most likely in breeding mode.. I wouldn't worry to much. Marshall

Your boa has reached sexual maturity. Right now with the changing climate and the reduced day light, is nature's signal to visit the ladies. Even without a female present he is actively seeking and entered mating mode. It is natural for them to go off feed during this time. So, as stated earlier, don't worry, you can continue trying to feed, but do not become alarmed if he refuses to eat for some time.
