tub ventalation question

GLZ Dec 15, 2008 07:03 PM

I have my new rack set up and it seems to be heating nicely, thanks everyone for there tips and advice!!

My question now is in referance to tub ventalation as I dont want to over heat the tubs from ambient air heat build up.

My rack is melamine with closed back, each rack shelf is approx 49" wide by 24" deep by 7" tall ... each shelf holds 3 tubs with lids (I am using the lids).

the tubs are 24" x 16" x 7" ........ each tub has a total of 32 ventalation hols.

8 holes spaced out on each side to make a total of 16 (the 24" sides), 5 holes in the front and rear to make a total of 10(16" front/rear) and then 3 holes in the lid at front and rear to make 6 holes total.

I have seen pictures of other peoples rack set ups and many of them have a lot more ventalation holes ..... does it sound like I have enough or maybe I need to add more??

Thanks again in advance for your information!

10 holes in front, 10 holes in back, 8 holes on left side, 8 holes on right side, 3 holes on top front and 3 holes on top back. ......... so 42 vent holes total per tub

keep in mind the more holes the more fragile your tub will become.

i've had tubs crack from me trying to remove it from the rack by holding onto it's sides.

if your rack is set up to be used without covers on the tubs, then you can get away with about a 3-4mm gap from the top of the tub to the bottom of the next shelf.

That question can't really be answered, because the number of holes that you need depends entirely on the environment that you keep your animals in. Things that will make your room different from everyone elses include:
air temperature
relative humidity
when, and for how long temps drop (i.e. at night)
substrate
size of water dish
type of heating
air circulation
your ball pythons habits
