Dekayi snakes eating pinky parts!!!!

dekaybrown Dec 16, 2008 05:38 AM

I know a few of you on here, and some don't frequent the "small terrestrial snakes" forum, so I'll post this here also.

I managed to feed my Dekayi snakes scented pinky parts!!

Here is a couple pictures, First I cut off legs and thighs of frozen pinky mice, and rubbed them on a big garden slug, then offered the pinky parts on tongs.

I have been breeding and raising Dekayi's for years, and this is a first for me.

More complete nutrition, and CALCIUM a critical component missing from the standard Dekayi diet. (and they like it!)

One wee baby that has been difficult to feed ate 4 hunks of pinky last night.

Hey, nice work! I bet this is something few have considered trying.

If these small terrestrial snakes can be maintained on thawed mice, these animals would be a nice classroom pet and such.

Cool. I've sort of wanted to get a Dekay's but I have trouble finding appropriate food. We have these stinky little snails that they won't touch and slugs that would probably eat the snake. One big slug to scent pink parts with could wok though. I wonder how they'd do on them long term?

Have you, by any chance, tried raising slugs? That's one other thing I've considered, but it's not like there's a lot of info available on how to breed your own slugs...
