BP wanting held during shed cycle???????

luvmyhydra Dec 16, 2008 08:06 PM

Anyone ever have a BP prefer being held during a shed cycle? I was doing light cleaning on my male's cage today so held him a minute when doing so and he just didn't want back in there. He usually won't put a fight up but anytime he's in shed he wants right up on me. I thought usually they didn't like being held or whatever during a shed cycle, or do I just have an unusual BP? I had to put him under his hide spot and close his cage pretty quick like. Not that I mind holding Hydra, just curiosity killing me to see if anyone else has snakes who do like him.

Btw, his eyes just changed totally last night, so he's not shedding skin yet. So it's not to help lose the skin.

He wants out of his cage. Snakes do not have an emotional need to be held. They have no emotions at all.

I didn't ask if they have emotions, which btw, there is no way to prove that I simply asked does anyone have a snake who likes being held when in shed cycles.

How do you know it likes being held? Could it be that you are just a giant heat pad for your snake?? Our body temperature is well over 90 degrees. That snake would probably let you hold it all day long in shed or not, just because of the warmth.

I'd have to argue this a little. You can't deny that BPs feel fear, and that is an emotion. Stress is bodily regulated, and an emotion. And a lot of BPs are curious, and curiosity is an emotion.

They may not feel lovey-dovey, but they do get to know you and remember your scent after enough handling, and learn to feel secure/safe around you, and security/comfortableness is an emotion.

Snakes secrete hormones just like we do, and hormones cause emotion - though it may not be on an intimate level that this discussion's topic is talking about.

Instinct through millions of years of evolution, or emotion?

Very good response Maybe emotion is a result of evolution. Are human emotions instincts or are they emotions? Because, like I said before, they secrete emotion-occurring hormones the same way as we do...

all balls want out all the time....

they don't prefer a cage

balls do not think about affection and cuddling

they do get itchy and want to rub on things as they shed...

I use a piece of cork in each cage....even a small piece......
