My private park

JasonW Dec 18, 2008 01:18 PM

I guess this is the place to share this. I just purchased a house not far from the one I rented. The yard is nice and big, the property is separated into 2 levels with a fence between them. I am in the planing stages of converting the entire lower level of the property into my own personal rain forest or "reptile park" if you will. Enjoy the pictures.

Looking from one corner to the next

At the other corner looking back at where I just was

Same corner looking up the fence towards the house.

At the other fence. Even though its December this wall has proven a great spot to observe Sceloporus.

Another good Sceloporus spot. This is a retaining wall that use to serve to hold a patio to enjoy the views before a golf course was put in behind the property.

Wow your pictures really make me want to get started on this project. Did you do all that yourself? How long did it take you? I am going to start by closing the opening in the fence to the old patio. I plan to keep the patio as a way to look over my private little rain forest but will plant my first plants "vines" as soon as the opening in the fence is closed. I figured on using simple T posts and 4X4 wire fencing for this. I already have all of that so its just a matter of getting it done.

Wow,
December, and it's still green! Where abouts are you? I see lots of potential there, and you probably have a host of herps already co-habitating with you. Looks real nice. Congrats.

Its been green sence we closed escrow last month. The house is in N California about an hour south of Sacramento in the small town of Ione. This far I have observed Fence Lizards as well as a Garter Snake on the property.

Ok I had a chance to do a little work on the park yesterday and today. I enclosed the big void in the fence to separate the back yard from the rain forest

I then planted a vine on the new fence. I purchased a baby vine years ago and have taken a part of it to each house we moved to. This is where this part goes. I think being a vine it will add to the whole rain forest look. I plan to let it overgrow all over the new portion of the fence as well as the old wood fence. I do know it will add a lot of weight to the fence but hopefully the old wood fence posts will be able to handle it. I looked at archways yesterday to put just inside of the gate leading to the rain forest to let the vine grow on.
