ewwww!!! grossgrossgrossgrossgross!!

xelda Sep 09, 2003 12:33 AM

I've had a cold over the last week, so my nose was only just starting to clear up a couple days ago. Lo and behold, I walked into my room today and smelled something peculiar. It seemed like it was coming from my superworms (1000 ), so I bought a bigger container for them today, thinking it was time to change the bedding and whatnot. (I haven't done it yet, because I have a night class.)

Anyway, I'm cleaning my room tonight, and when I moved my guitar, I felt something wet on my toe. It was a squished superworm!! Squished as flat as a Fender can squish a superworm. I have no idea how long it's been there, but my cat ate it up for me while I was trying to recover from the grossness of it, and he just threw up.

Turns out the smell was rotten superworm (you know how they stink).

It's the Toronado model they released several years ago. I keep four guitars and two amps in my room in addition to my two tanks with my three geckos. (And my room is not that big.) lol

nice, i like the toronado. my room is extremely small, and i have 3 guitars, the tele is the only one i mentioned cos' its the only one i really like, and cages all over the place. tanks and sterilite containers. and of coarse the disgusting mess of cloths and such on my floor, maybe i should clean... nah.

My jumbo acoustic is the one that I play the most. It's actually the first guitar I bought. When I was looking for an electric though, I tried everything I could get my hands on. If it weren't the Toronado, I would've gotten the JD Tele.

i have a jumbo acoustic too, its so rad, fromt he 40's, got it from my granddaddy. i can't use it much though, it has no pickups, it has f-holes so i can't put one on, so if i use it people won't hear it at all. tele's are awesome.

Do you need a pickup? What kind of music do you normally play?

Mine's got a nice, full sound. I can see how the sound would get lost if I were in a band or something, but I've taken it outside to play, and it still resonates beautifully.

ya, i need a pick up, cos' i am in a band, and its hard to hear an acoustic over extremely loud bass, drums and another guitar...

tweezers and have them grabbed a bit to hard and juice squirts out of em and into your eye?... i jate the way super worms feel when they are walking on you and how they hold on, so i used to use tweezers when i picked em up. so i picked one up apparently squeezing a tad too hard and it squirted bug just out and into my eye and on my face........ talk about grosss

I use chopsticks to pick up my superworms, so I'm glad I've never had that problem. I didn't know they made a popping sound though. I get really bothered by the crunch sound that cockroaches make and how they can walk off with half their body gone. They're the only bugs I can't stand.

bigguykev36 Sep 09, 2003 03:26 AM

Not in my eye, but I've been squirted. When I got my first lizard, I thought "hand feed" meant stick your hand in there and hold ith between your fingers, and feed it to 'em. Well I had a beardie at the time, and darned ifthat little sucker didn't chomp right down on my finger not only getting mealworm, but breaking it open on my finger. Luckily he didn't break the skin. Or that could have been BAD...

P.s. man, dead bugs DO stink, waxworms, super worms, mealworms, CRICKETS.... ewww.

Really? That's I've always meant when I used the term "hand feed." lol I've hand fed my leo mealworms before, but only because my female was gravid and I really wanted her to eat. Made me feel so happy when she actually took it from my fingers.

To me hand feeding means holding the mealworms in a pair of tweezers.........LOL. I tried the holding it in my fingers only to have Boo take a taste of my finger LOL Didnt break the skin or anything. Plus i'm darn sure the mealworms know that they are dinner cause the one i fed latched on to me, thus me getting a leo bite hehe.

The same thing happened when i tried to feed my crested a cricket by hand.....he stalked, leaped and attacked my finger.

Also most of my tanks are on units about eye level. This poses a problem as i'm a shorty.....4'10". Usually i have to stand on a chair. So using long rounded end tweezers is alot easier

xelda Sep 09, 2003 02:10 AM

It was getting crowded, so I stuck some into a container that had big airholes in it. They were able to stick their heads through one of the holes and chew it so it got big enough to crawl through. I caught a whole bunch of them, but I suspected some might have fallen off my dresser and hid.

cheshireycat Sep 09, 2003 05:40 AM

I hear they can chew through containers, too, although it's never happened to me.

Anyway, why do I keep hearing that superworms stink? Mine don't smell AT ALL. In fact, their oatmeal bedding (and the addition of a vanilla-smelling vitamin soy powder I add) smells pretty good

Crickets... now they REEEEEEK.

But anyway, this one stunk because its squashed corpse had been hidden and rotting in my bedroom for I don't know how long.

Here i am eating my breakfast and reading the posts.........a big NO NO from now on LOL. Of course its mostly my own fault for continuing to read the string when the topic was squished bugs HAHAHA

I went out and bought containers for my mealworms that are realitively tall so the little suckers cant climb out! When i had crickets.............*shutters* i would find them everywhere........even though they were in a 10gal tank with a screen top!

I store lots of crickets for my 4 crested geckos (and soon to be leo, when I've done my research). Whenever I have crickets that get out - which is often - I sick my yellow lab on them. She eats them up just like a cat! I haven't found a stray one yet!

I was always really good at catching bugs when I was a kid, so I don't lose any crickets that happen to jump out. Darn good thing too, 'cause I do all the feeding in my bedroom!

I can't really call my room a bedroom. I have a couch bed that gets folded up (lazy mans way to make a bed hehehe). Its also my art studio, computer room, and gecko habitat. I used to have my own fridge and microwave but i had to move them out so i could have room for more tanks hehe.
Its the better half of what used to be the rec room. We built a mini apartment for when i was engaged and the both of us lived here. I'm thinking of doing some renovating so i can utilize the room in the large walk-in closet. Plus theres still room beside the couch so i hope to build my own gecko condo with 4 habitats. I really want the room situated so that if anything escapes i can find it quickly. Right now theres to many hiding spots and when i did have crickets loose i used to find them around or on my desk all the time. YUCK!
