Missing Scales On Tail In Small Ring

faygo19 Dec 19, 2008 09:16 PM

I have a bearded dragon who is a monster and just recently has a white ring on its tail. Looks to be missing the scales there not sure why. If anyone could tell me anything i can do that would be great. Not sure if its a he/she but it eats and drinks fine and seems very healthy otherwise. Maybe 2 years old.

Well....way too many unanswered questions to give an answer. A picture certainly would be helpful too.

It could be a sore or injury caused from anything from a cricket to other cage mates (if not housed alone). Could be a burn, fungus, bad shed or even mites...

Crazy I guess I will have to get a picture up on here but I do not have any other animals in the cage. the light is too far out of the way for a burn so maybe critters? I dind't know they could harm him. Also if it was mites? How would you know that and what would you do to fix that? Also how would you get mites. Thanks for the reply though.

crickets not critters. Any crickets let in the cage over night can bite your dragon while he sleeps. They can chew large wounds over a period of time which is why it is not recommended to leave uneaten crickets in the cage.

Mites could come from other dragons, especially any recent additions or already been on your dragon when you bought him. Typically you can see dark small oval bugs crawling on your dragon, in the substrate or if you soak your dragon for about ten minutes or more in luke warm water, you can see them in the water (they drown and fall off).

The spot where you say there is a scale missing..is it red or just normal skin color? Any sign of bleeding or scabbing? It could be nothing at all too.
