in response to johnes post about getting ready for winter.. do you really put them in the fridge??? are collareds subjected to much cooler winter conditions than beardies that they must be "chilled" in the fridge for them to burmate, or was that just a figure of speech, well i suppose they are but you really put them in the fridge!?

hahaha boy this whole post sounds silly

very confused,
alissa

Personnally, I don't know about them. LOL There are no refridgerators in the wilds of the southwest. (that we know about) You should have seen me the first time I heard that, I was like, "wait a minuet, that can't be right..." but I hear it works, so...

I found the method easier on me than using a cooler and ice packs. If you can get a refridgerator that is stable at 45-50, then use it. You don't have to worry about any warm fluctuations, and also you can keep them in longer. I can only get about 68 F in my basement, and I like to brumate at least 12 weeks.

I also just put them in small Sterlite containers with holes in the lid. I used no substate at all last year. There are indentations in the four corners of the box...I would fill them up with water every couple weeks if they needed it.

Really though, never have used temps so low ! Every body I had last year was alittle to young but I did let My out- of - sexual - control, Zuni rest awhile. He and some other lizards I have, I do it very different , may be wrong, but it works. I just leave at room temp, sometimes if they wake I will let them bask with a low wattage light, they can get a drink, I have at times even offered Zuni a cricket. He usually returns to sleep for a few days at a time, and thats it. This lasts a few of the colder months, until he starts coming out more and more, then I up the wattage of light and food. I have not experienced any weight loss at all while they sleep either. And he was extremely sexual theis season. Hopi did not brumate at all and this is her second clutch. I do think it is good to give a break or rest, but I keep my temps a little higher. Eve

There will be many who don't agree with what I do, everybody does what works for them, and their lizards. Eve
