i really want a savannah monitor but im not sure if i would be able to keep it cause i already have a 7"2 red tailed boa and a dog and they take up alot of space. but i saw this picture online and i know this isnt a savannah but is this cage appropriate? cause i could handle something like that.

If you don't have room try getting smaller monitors like timor dwarf or red akies(ridge tails) plus depending on the cage your boa is in and what you get for your monitor if you get one you should be able to stack your cages on top of each other.

PLEASE tell me you,re kidding?! To follow this example is pure animal abuse! There is no humidity in that cage,no substrate, you just cant be serious condsidering this as a setup!

rappstar609 Dec 21, 2008 06:01 PM

Nope. That is a bad idea to house any reptile in. build your own. 4x4 feet minimum, at least a foot of substrate, needs to hold temp and humidity.

The person that did that is a MORON!!!!!! I cant believe people are that stupid. If you cant handle the room, expense, or proper care then you should not have one. Monitors require a lot more food, cage requirements, etc... than a snake. Usually. I would recommend starting small. Monitor lizards are not for everybody. Good Luck.

If you want a large monitor, I would have to suggest against a Sav monitor; depending greatly upon where you purchase it from.

Many Savs that enter the pet trade are in horrible condition, and purchasing such animals from vendors (such as large-scale petstore chains) only continues the abusive capture/transport of these animals for the pet trade.

Save your money, purchase an animal thats captive bred from a reliable source.
DONT promote inappropriate sales/maintainence practices for the sake of getting a $20 lizard - you arent helping yourself, the lizard, or the wild populations.

that monitor looks pretty robust to me. maybe they are on to something? kidding, of course. but the lizard does APPEAR to be healthy. no?

From someone else. Lets see it in a year ofter living like that. Looks to me like someone had a ferret living in the cage, and either sold or traded the ferret, or it died, next came the monitor.

SHvar Dec 24, 2008 01:45 PM

The monitor just got done stealing the ferrets cage. I hope they are not actually keeping the monitor in that, tell me its a joke.
