Introducing my balls, female to male or

wonzzer Dec 21, 2008 10:17 PM

Hello everyone, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Can everyone tell me how you introduce your breeders.

Male into females tub, or females into males tub?

Thanx for the input.

Justin

Yeah, I know... I type a lot. I'd rather be sure the reader gets the full answer and understands it than be short and sweet.

See, now I always introduce the female into the male's cage! That way, the only thing new to the male, is the female! No new cage or new smells to explore, he's in his own element!

most would say female to male cage so he doesn't let his mind wonder around sniffing new area....like you said...

.I do it either way.......if they are gonna, they are gonna......

....if she isn't ready.....they don't......

....it's been an oddly slow year so far.......hmmmmm....

maybe they been talking to my wife lately?......I gotta keep an eye on her...........

See... no matter how long you do this there is always something to learn.

I know everyone has their own way of doing things, but after over a decade of breeding snakes I thought this was one of those things that most people did the same.

I like to introduce the male to the female for a number of reasons:

I always figured that in the wild it would be more natural for the male to search out the female so he would be more prone to visit her than the other way around.

I never considered the distractions of smelling a new tub, in fact, I've always thought of that as an advantage. If he isn't the only male that has been in the tub recently he is more apt to smell the other male's presence and would therefore be more competitive sexually.

To each their own. If it works for you and no one is harmed in the process - do it!

I do it both ways

I usually move male because the girls all look the same...they are now turning into morphs, but when most were normals it is easy to mix the girls up, so I left them in their cage so I knew who was who....(even though I could tell most girls apart even if you put like 30 together...most, not all)...

males are smaller too and they have alot more to breed than the girls...so I just swap males from one cage to the other every day or so....

this year they are lazy???....

so far ....

I do it both ways as well. Though most of the time I put my males in with the females.

On few occasions i`ll put my male into the female`s cage, but 95% of the time i put the females in with males.

I always put the males in with the females. I want to put as little stress on the females as possible so moving them around I don't think is the best thing for them if they're getting stressed out while developing eggs and such. The males I don't worry so much about getting stressed, he'll breed the girls if they're there but he's not the one giving me eggs so I don't mind him getting a little stressed from the movement.

Good question Justin.

We tend to put the males in with the females 99% of the time because we don't want to stress the females by moving them around. Also, the males are much lighter so lifting them into the top tubs is much easier for me cause I'm so short.

However, when I have a male that isn't getting his grove on ( ) I'll try putting females in with him in his tub. Sometimes it works . . . sometimes it doesn't.
