I need ideas on housing a 7 ft gopher snake.
You could get a large tub with a lid and some holes burned in for ventilation, thats how a lot of people house there bigger pits.
A wooden cage would be nice, make it long and if your going to display the snake give it some headroom. Some pits like to climb when given a branch or something they can get up on. 6x4x4 would be pretty nice or 6x4x3...LxHxW. with a glass or plexiglass front. Vennts on side and back. Thats just a rough idea-if you have the room. my 5 foot gopher is housed in a 55 gallon tank-he is comfy.
As far as materials someone with more exp. than me could chime in.
Thanks for the advice
A 4ft x 2ft x 1ft high cage is plenty of room. You can purchase a ready-made PVC or HDPE cage of that size for around $200.
A cabinet shop can build you a nice wood cage that size too. I had a shop build the shell for me, and I made my own door. The shop threw the cage together in no time and used better plywood than you commonly find at the DIY stores. I still was able to design it myself, and it ended up costing just a little more than me doing it myself, and it came out a whole lot better than me doing it myself.
