This snake is 6&5/8". It was found on a stump off The Tennessee River. It is gray with brown checkers. It's tail is brown. It has a small black area on top of it's head.

It's a brown snake - Storeria dekayi, sometimes also called a Dekay's snake. These are harmless worm and slug eaters.
