a funny lil story

SnakeCharmer77 Dec 23, 2008 09:35 AM

its funny when you learn how ignorant some people are. i dont mean stupid- i just mean when someone doesnt know something because they havent learned it yet...

anyways, many people at work know i have snakes. one lady calls me "the snake lady" lol. we were talking about my snakes last night and one lady did bring up that some people around the world eat snakes. and i said, yeah and some places like china they even eat their penises. and one girl was like "what? they have penises?" i told her they did, that it was kind of Y shaped. and she was like omg!
lol...

she thought they just touched and that was it. i got to inform her that they did indeed have penises and it took more than just rubbing together. but i didnt get into the details-lol. althought i guess i should have just for my own entertainment ahahahahahaha...

anyways, just thought id share :D

HAHA!! Sounds like some guys at the fire department with me! One guy asked what they ate, so of course I told him hamburgers and fries from McDonald's usually lol. Another one asked if they are wet or slimy all the time or just when they want to be and I was like WTH? People have no clue about these animals because the closest they have ever came to them is a picture in a science book or watching tv.

The amusing part is always explaining technically they have two. To get you from either side.

Great story!
I teach Anatomy, Physiology and Human Biology, and you'd be amazed at the ignorance level that people have about their own body, let alone a snake. I had one woman (that had 3 children) in class that did not know what a uterus was! That is one of the more extreme cases, but WOW! I know alot about the body, but learn new things about HUMANKIND every day

THAT'S AWESOME!!! Just the other day I was telling some of my co-workers at my new job about having Ball Pythons. One lady asked where I live. I told her and she freaked b/c we live near each other. I live in Northern Colorado. We have about 3 inches of snow currently on the ground. YEAH like my snakes are going to get out, go through the snow to her house and kill her or her little ankle-biter!!! I also love it when they ask if I'm afraid of them killing me!!! LOL

anendeloflorien Dec 23, 2008 11:25 AM

Yeah I love that reaction. My Aunt won't even come over to my house because she's afraid that the snakes (which are in the basement on the other side of the house from the living room) would get out and start just mauling her before I could do anything about it!

SnakeCharmer77 Dec 23, 2008 02:45 PM

lol yeah...and another favorite is when they ask me if im afraid that they will get lose and end up in bed with me when im sleeping..LMAOOOO

My favorite is when I try to explain frozen rodents to people. I've had several ask me if the mice come alive when I thaw them out!

Ha! This hobby has kept so many unwelcome visitors, mainly family from my home! The people that I am actually close to all overcame their fears and became curious about my BP's. My sister in law was deathly afraid her whole life with no substantial reason and 3 years later she succesfuly raised her first clutch!

Best story I have is after meeting the new neighbors and giving them a tour of the place I took them to the "room". I explained all I had were BP's and corns. After a nervous excuse as to why they had to leave I became the "evil satanic snake guy" on our street. 3 days later Animal Control shows up with DHR because they received a complaint I was keeping "highly venomous snakes" and I was a danger to not only the community but my 14 month old as well. I literally laughed right there at the door. After giving the tour one of the animal control officers looked at the BP i was going to give a bath to before i wan interrupted and said "thats an amazing looking mojave"! I hadnt even discussed anything about morphs! The 2 officers were amazing and the DHR lady even knew this was a joke. After laughing the whole thing off She called her supivisor and closed the complaint then asked to hold one of the baby corns. One of the officers asked to come back another time to purchase a pastel for his nephew because ha already has 3 normals. I told him I would give him one on 2 conditions. 1. He brings his nephew with him the next time he is in town. 2. He goes and tells they neighbors I have all of the necessary permits to keep venemous reptiles!

And this is why you should never live in the hills of bible thumping "Sweet Home Alabama" unless you own snakes. They keep the rodent and other backwood moonshine drinkin critters undr control!

lol i know what you mean- several have said they will never come to my house. i think one lady would be willing because she does ask me questions and looks at their pics. the other lady will come close to crying if i even talk about them in depth around her.
i do try to respect people like her because she is a very sweet lady and i wouldnt want to upset her on purpose.

when i was a LITTLE KID i thought all snakes were scary because i didnt know anything about them- i thought they were all going to get me! but as ive grown up i have learned so much more and obviously have fallen in love with them. and now its amazing how much people dont know about animals in general but about snakes. they all think the bps are poisonous...ahahahahahah.....well of course they are,but im immune.

I once told my wife's friend, I had to go home and clean rodents, and she wanted to know if I "blow dry" them!

SnakeCharmer77 Dec 23, 2008 10:55 PM

lmaooo you should have told em "well yeah...and we paint their toe nails and let them wear special little outfits"
i will pat off or rub off extra water before i feed em to a snake (i feed f/t)...but good grief...LMAOOOO

LOL thats absolutely great if you can convince the officer to tell your neighbors you have permits to keep venomous snakes. lol that will keep them out of your yard for sure.

DeguMeat Dec 24, 2008 01:01 AM

The one I hear most is "Do you keep them in cages?"
It's either that or a story about their "badass" snake named "Monty" they used to have and their horrible husbandry techniques because they bought it on impulse to be cool.

SnakeCharmer77 Dec 24, 2008 07:52 AM

uh huh..or the people who claim theyve had it for a long time, but they ask questions that youd think they would know by now....but they are questions that someone would ask before they get an snakes, or when they first get it...

omg the worst story ive heard so far was that this lady's son was friends with a guy who had snakes and the guy gave her son a snake. she didnt know what kind it was but she said when she came home to find the snake she called her sister to bring her gun over to shoot it because shes scared. she said she told her son to get rid of it or she was shooting it. she said when she would take her son to the guys house she would park a block away just so she wouldnt have to be near the snakes....
they guy wouldnt take it back and they didnt have anywhere else to keep it, so to prevent her from shooting it they RELEASED IT INTO THE WILD! wtf! WTF! she doesnt know what kind of snake it was but she claims it was a big snake. W T F! so potentially we have a retic or burm or rock or anaconda roaming freely in ga..but then again when youre like that a rosy boa could be considered big i guess..lol...
.they might be cool pets when in a "contained" and "controlled" atmosphere, but the bigger ones are just something waiting to happen around well populated areas like this. i hope by now the animal has been rescued for its own sake, if nothing else...

Size is in the eye of the beholder. Several years ago I worked in pest control, and had a customer who told me of all the rattlesnakes he killed in his yard, I told him to call me and I would remove them free of charge, just don't kill them, rattlesnakes are few and far between in this part of the country. He never did call on a rattlesnake, but did call the office about a year later, saying he had a 5 ft( yes he said 5 ft) copperhead trapped in a box, The office radioed me and I told them to tell him I'd be by after work I really wanted to see a 5 ft copperhead. When I arrived he pointed to a cardboard box on the drive next to a retaining wall and said it was in there. The snake had crawled into the box and he had placed a sheet of glass on the box and weighted it down with weight lifting plates. I'm surprised the box and glass held all the weight he put on them. After I got all the stuff off the box and looked in I was actualy surprised, it realy was a copperhead, being a early spring evening and rather chilly it was easy to catch and pick up all 18-20 inches of the snake. I mentioned it was a little short of 5 ft, and he said yea, he guessed it just looked bigger in the daylight, but now he could see that it was only 3 ft long. I don't know what I should have said, but with him being a customer I couldn't say what I was thinking.

There is actualy more to the story before I released it, but this is already kinda long so I'll tell it some other time
Claude

I love that one too! "No, you open the basement door and there's a pile of writhing snakes, just like Indiana Jones"!

brianlovescheese Dec 24, 2008 09:49 AM

I got a call one night from a lady wanting to get rid of a full grown albino boa. The next day I went to look at it and guess what? A 4 ft burm in a 10 gallon......she even told me while I was holding the snake that it was a two years old and full grown at which point I laughed and told her how big they really got. I guess she had been told by some moron they are like goldfish and only get as big as the tank would allow...some people shouldn't be alive. But I did get it for free lol.
