who knows about orange exanthematicus?

jobi Dec 23, 2008 12:24 PM

This last year iv seen a few colorfull exanthematicus imported.

They arent your typical savanna, these get more colorfull with age, adult males have ritch yellows and oranges with blue dorsal spots.

iv raised a few babies that looked quite normal in coloration, now as they near adulthood there colors are poping out nicely.

have anyone seen or kept them?

That looks pretty awesome! How many do you have?

Did you see the one someone posted a while back? It looked similar to that one. Someone here was accusing him of using red lighting to mislead people. I thought that was pretty weak, the kid was really excited about his new Savanna.

in a shipment of 100 heads only 8 showed colors, the rest apeared normal. I took the 8 home and 5 died within a few weeks.
This was odd for me sins iv been importing monitors for 25 years, and I pride myself at bringing back very sick dieing monitors in tip top shape, however these died from liver damage.
I suspect they have been treated for parasitism?

the shot-gun therapy many dealers commonly do with imports, often do more damage then good.

anyway 1.2 are doing well and growing. I optained 1.1 babies from an other shipment, they looked normal at first but now starting to show nice colors.

my 1.2 young adults are also getting more colorfull as they grow.
from what I can see, they have similar colors to my niger uromastyx (very ritch reds, orange and yellows)

needles to say I am very exited about them and hope to produce 1000s of colorfull babies in the up comming years.

this should help releive some presure on wild babies?

ps. sorry I cant post any new photos yet

Ben Siegel had a boat load of these guys come in. As babies they were pretty colorful for the most part but what stood out was the blue stripes. I believe underground reptiles had quite a few as well. Strictly reptiles may have also had them, I can't remember. Nice looking animal, good luck with them.
