HELP!! Prized & beloved Dragon Sick!!

lizardlance77 Dec 23, 2008 01:48 PM

Hello everyone, I bred and produced this beautiful bananna yellow sandfire; held him back and has become a star breeder for me. Over the past 2 weeks his appitite has diminished, only taking a bite a greens and one dusted cricket every few days; which I'm fully aware this could be dormant behavior. He's been sleeping under the hot spot when the lights are on. Stools seem normal considering his loss of appitite. I spoke with a vet this morning and he thinks it could be kidney disease. He's a 6 year old and has done great the past 5 years. Also his spine and hips are just now becoming noticeable.

Any advice would be helpful folks,
Lance

he's lossing weight so its not because he wants to brumate. No clue why your vet says kidney problems, did he run tests or just did a fecal? YOu need to get him to a qualified vet to find out what is wrong.

What's his weight and length? 6 is not an old dragon by today's standards. Have you tried offering other food? Maybe some hornworms or superworms?

He shouldnt be sleeping under the basking light...........he should be basking under the light. Is it getting warm enough in the cage and under the basking light? If he was trying to brumate he wouldnt be sleeping under the light........so it sounds like either something is wrong(should be checked by a vet, I dont know of any vet that would try to diagnose something over the phone like that) or the temps are off.

Thanks for the advice and input folks. I'm taking him to a reptile vet in my area tomorrow.

Merry Christmas everyone,
