hybrid/education continued......

I can't get over how many times people use the term flawed genes when referring to hybrids. Did everyone forget that we are breeding these animals to exhibit flawed genes? I can't think of one natural scenerio where the albino gene would be a beneficial evolution for ball pythons. If it is not beneficial and if the majority of animals aren't evolving it, then the gene must be flawed. I can see the argument regarding corns and emory's since they are so closely related that the hybrid between them both is very similar to the parent animals. However, this is not the case with any other species of python other than the angolan python. Even with the angolan hybrid you get the beady scalation of the angolan and would easily be able to recognize the offspring. People state that some unscrupalous(sp) breeder may take advantage of an uneducated buyer well then I say change that mentality of uneducated buyers buying these animals. Let's educate people what to look for in non-hybrid animals, what to look for in scale counts and how to count scales. What the proper scalation on a head of a ball python is supposed to look like. It is a shame but the truth that there will be some breeder try to market a hybrid as a pure animal but let's try to reverse the trend of uneducated people buying and keeping these animals.

My suggestion is for everyone here join a local herp society if you aren't already and if you are, become more proactive. Find a young person and mentor them. Help them learn to implement other means of research besides the internet or at least learn all aspects of the animals naturl life history. If you are young or new to the hobby, please seek out others that have more experience. I know I have blown up recently at new-commers and for that I appologize. If anyone has questions for me I am a member of the Calusa Herp society based out of Fort Myers, Florida and we meet the first thursday of every month. If you are local please come and if not please find one near you.

lol.
I understand what you are saying.
I am against it but at the same time people have there right to breed hybrids if they want. And I wont argue that some of them are beautiful, cause they are. Imagine a Super lesser burm ball. I think it would be beautiful. Just not something for me.

I personaly don't see a problem with hybrids being talked about in the ball python forums. Of course i speak for myself. lol
One thing I notice alot of people talking about is the chance of someone taking a morph from another species and breeding it into a ball then trying to breed as much of the other species of python out of the Hybrid to look as much like a ball as possible while still keeping the morph.
But I personaly think it would be the other way around. With ball pythons having so many morphs out there, I would think people would be trying to breed some of these morphs into other species of pythons and if they lack in the ethic department they might try to breed the ball out of the hybrid and passing the hybrid off as the other species and not the ball python.
If its possible and it probably is. Someone could spend the time and effort into creating the first carpet python lucitic hybrid and pass it off as the first non leathal Carpet lucy. And probably make some serious cash.
But everyone is alowed to have there own opinions and if they want to talk about ball python hybrids in ball python forums then I think it should be allowed.
Just my 2 cents.

Makes you wonder how some of these co-dom morphs and stuff are popping up in Species that are ilegal to export out of there native environment.
Its even odder when they pop up outside of there native country but not in there native country when export is ilegal.
But anything is possible.

DITTO!!! I've been wondering that myself. I figured there was just a whole lot of inbreeding going on, which I'm very against for the sake of the animals health. I know some breeders that say it's ok to do it and they don't have problems, but I'd rather not risk it if I don't have to.
