Which in your opinion is the best antibiotic to treat the RI?
Injectable or Oral?

Baytril, also known as Enrofloxin, works for me. First raise heat and take away water (give water for an hour every other day) and see if that will do it....sometimes it will take care of the problem. If I still have the signs of respiratory infection, then I use Baytril injectable.

My vet prescribed Baytril, and it worked just fine.

what would be the symptoms to watch for a possible RI?

i have a female that i bought two or three months ago (het pied), the previous owner said she was eating fine, but she hasn't eaten for me at all since I got her. i have tried live and freshly killed rats (started at medium since she seems to be able to eat a medium), went down to small, and last time i tried giving her a crawler. last time i tried force feeding her the freshly killed crawler and got it half way down her throat, but she finally regurgitated it.

my concern is that while i was trying to force feeding her and while she was trying to get rid of the rat (i thought she was figuring out if she was going to swallow it or not), i could hear a whizzing sound that i had not heard in other force feeding instances (i have had to force feed a couple of BP before). she doesn't have a "runny" nose and the inside of her mouth looks clean...

could she have an infection and that could be why she's not eating? she is also VERY skittish...

any input?
thanks

AND MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!!!!

if your animal is acting out of the ordinary and you cant figure out what it is and believe it to be some kind of ailment i highly recommend taking it to a qualified exotics vet. catchin it early will save you alot of time, money and potential sad days

You've only had your snake for 2-3 months and you force fed it? They can go much longer than that without losing much weight. What is your setup like? If your snake doesn't look or sound like it has an infection, it may be more likely that something's wrong with the setup and it's causing stress. Also, how old is it?

u r right, i think i overreacted...i will keep offering her food on a regular basis for some time before trying anything drastic (i offered her a small rat yesterday, she did strike at the rat a couple of times, but didn't try to grab/wrap it and didn't eat it... thanks for the reality check
