Very stuck shed

saikyan Dec 26, 2008 05:30 PM

So, my house has been ridiculously dry lately, and despite periodic misting, my BP had her worst-ever shed today. Looking back, I obviously should have provided a humid hide, but it's never been a problem before so I didn't think of it.

I soaked her in warm water and that did a fine job with her body, but there is some shed stuck to her head that has me totally baffled. There's a patch on the back of her head and some individual scales that seem to be stuck, and I have no idea what to do about that. I tried some light rubbing with mineral oil, but it had no effect.

Any ideas?

I think that is the opposite of stuck shed. It looks like old skin, but sometimes when the shed is very dry it doesn'e come away from the fresh skin underneath and peels some with it. Best way I can relate it to peeling some dry skin off of your lips and some fresh lip comes with it. I has happened to a few of my snakes....we live in the desert. Leave it be, and the next shed cycle spritz his cage well from blue phase until shed...keep the humidity close to 100%. The new skin that time should look great again.
Good luck, and I hope this is of help.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the suggestion! I hope there is no permanent damage.

I don't think there will be. There has never been any sign whatsoever on mine after the next shed. Good luck!
