Need help sexing hogs

Joe_Acosta Dec 26, 2008 07:37 PM

I have these two hogs that I bought originally as a pair when they were hatchlings. They have seemingly same tail lengths now that they are a year older. They are 07' and weigh 45 grams and 30 grams respectively. They are 14 inches long.
Here are two photos for reference
thanks
45 gram hog

30 gram hog

They both appear to be males. I would probe them or have someone who knows how to probe do it for you.

Top looks female and bottem looks male to me.

The female has a thick tail compared to the bottom male.

I agree, looks like 1.1

I agree. Top looks female, bottom male. The male is ever so slightly constricted at the vent, then swells slightly behind the vent. That is absent in the top photo. Looks like 1.1.

I see it like my previous speakers

Your top one is 1.5 the weight of the 2nd, but its tail seems at least a quarter inch shorter to me--I bet you have a pair.

Thats exactly how they were sexed the top being female and the bottom being a male. I was just holding off saying anything because I didn't want to sway anyones opinion. I can normally tell the sexes pretty easily as I have bred and sold hogs before but for some reason this pair threw me for a loop. Thanks everyone
