Keeping the rodents out....

blueselaphe Dec 27, 2008 04:35 PM

Strange as it seems, I need to be able to keep wild rodents out of my new snake house. I now have a two car garage the I have to do some work on to make it a snake house but I have rat poo all over the place now. I have only layed eyes on two (the scouting party?)but the poo sugests that there are more. I have poo in odd places as if the critters are just trying to figure out what all the new stuff is and if it can be eaten. I have no problems with this, it's normal rat behaviour. Prior to moving in is when I saw the two rats in the rafters. I placed 3 different types of traps with no kill count to date. There are chew holes through the walls and holes in the walls at the base boards where the walls sat in water or just rotted out.... I plan on tacking on a 1 x 4 runner around the entire building, then insulating and panneling on the inside. (I live in coastal NC, the weather dosn't get "real" cold here for very long).
Other than that does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the critters out or at least slow them down untill I can fill enough sand bags to build a bunker inside the snake house??
Thanks,
-Blue

I think your on track...

A few key points to rodent control;

-Closing off or covering entrances into the facility including those from the outside. Rats can fit though any hole their head can.

-Controlling food. If there is nothing to eat they certainly won't stay for the pleasure of your company.

-Decon..nuff said the stuff works

Only time will tell. Also there are wrong ways to set a rat trap!
