wanting to switch to f/t rats

dvlnblkvans Dec 27, 2008 05:54 PM

Hello,
I have 2 beautiful hog Island Boas who have been eating live food since they were young. When I got them I tried to switch them to pre-killed but they were uninterested (they were a little stressed at the time from the move)so i didn't bother, and continued with live feeding. They are now about 4ft a piece and up to large rats and I would really like to switch them over to f/t rats. I was wondering if there was a trick or something i could do to make the rat more appitizing to them, because it is feeding time and they are nosing at the top of the cage in wait. any advice would be wonderful.... thanx

Jaime

If they are quick to attack their prey these days then they will probably accept F/T just as willingly now that they are adjusted to your home. You probably will not need any "tricks" if you are set up properly and your snakes are hungry otherwise.

try putting the rat in warm water. I have a female hog who would grab a frozen thawed rat and constrict it but not eat it unless I warmed it for her. she was picky like that til after her first litter of babies now she eats anything, anyway, anytime
