not feeding...

sean1976 Dec 28, 2008 01:54 AM

I've got a pac. gopher that has not eaten for about a month. I held off food for two weeks because I was not certain if a pink I found in the enclosure was a uneaten, but nasty, corpse or if it was nasty because it was a regurge. After waiting the two weeks I offered small pinks, first live then dead, but she has refused all for the last couple of weeks. Currently she is residing in my Q room at a friends house but I will drop by there to look at her mouth and to try again to get her to eat. I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on what might entice her to eat, what might be interfering with her appetite, or additional things I should check for besides mouth rot.

She did eat a few meals after arriving to the enclosure in the Q room but has not eaten since the first couple of meals.

could be as simple as a response to shortened day length and or temperature drop. it may be wanting to brumate. do a search of this topic and read what has been said about it below. good luck.

I'll keep that in mind. The reason I was not thinking brumation is that it is a 08 hatchling and the other 08 hatchling pac gopher in the same room is eating fine.

I did a forum search and nothing came up for "not feeding" or for "brumation". I'll manually look through later. As I said above I would not worry if it was a yearling or older where they have more body mass but a hatchling trying to brumate makes me worry. Also she hangs out in the warmer section of the enclosure.

Sean,
I had a couple of my holdback plains hogs (08s) go off feed in mid October, I cooled them for only 1 month (Nov. 15th to Dec. 18th), & they have eaten twice since warming them up. Others from the same clutch never stopped eating.
