Feeding after Ovulation

ChadRamsey Dec 29, 2008 11:25 AM

Do you still offer meals to your girls after ovulation?

One of my Het Pied girls just went through what i thought was pre-Ov shed and ovulation itself. But this morning when i was cleaning water bowls she displayed what i call "feeding behavior" so i offered her a small meal and she took it.

im kind of discouraged about it. May i was over zealous about the Ov.

I have witnessed copulation with 2 seperate het males MULTIPLE TIMES over the last 2 months by the way. This is also her first season breeding.

most if nt all will not eat IF they have ovulated..

you may have seen her actually swelling due to the "creation of follicles"....she will now eat like a pig then and breed well...then after a couple more monhts actually ovulate...

most of my stuff hasn't been breeding that well so far....odd...

some are swelling....so they are getting ready to do the whole breeding this year deal....

keep feeding, keep breeding, keep waiting....it takes allll year to breed a ball...not a couple months and they lay when YOU want...they do what THEY want....

the time cycles usually right now is that they are creating follicles or eating alot TO start to create follicles...

......ovulations are usually March April May and laying June July August........

.have fun....

Same here. Snakes that normally would have started breeding in November are still sitting around twiddling non-existent thumbs - looks like schedules are totally off this year. Some snakes that normally feed well are not feeding well. Snakes that normally don't feed well are actually...eating. weird. weird.

I watch the weather for rain and low pressure systems coming through our area...it always encourages breeding in Ball Pythons! I haven't had any ovulations yet, but it does look like the pre-ovulation sheds are beginning with lots of girls going into shed. Some eat, some don't but I do offer food to all of them. After ovulation I will not offer food to females potentially gravid.

yea.....sometimes

I dump water on some...let some dry....it rained alot here the other week...days of it...inches of it on the snake room floor...humidity went up temporarily....it's dry again, winter, 2 heaters running, .....some are breeding and have been ,,,others haven't even held hands yet....

I sold 9 of my BIG ole' girls and traded the cages up for morphs so ...some are just young....(some first timers have started...they didn't know what hit them....hold your hand?...yes...what the heck is that , ouch....)...

...some young and old are breeding...we have months yet...it should all workout ......

It may be mainly the low pressure. It depends on when they breed in Africa. We know the eggs hatch around April which is apparently timed to be early in the main rainy season (softer termite mounds? prey explosion?). Depending on how long the breeding season precedes egg laying there (maybe we draw it out too long here without the right cues) the start of breeding for them could be either the smaller rainy season mid-September to mid-November or the dry harmattan wind off the Sahara starting in December or January . The later start is in the south where it sounds like most of the balls are collected (at least 10 years ago it was when the report I read was written).

Mine are as good as a barometer. I caught a couple of first time breeders last night right before a big storm front blew in. I haven't found confirmation but presumably the harmattan is caused by low pressure so maybe our dry heated winter houses and winter storm systems are what trigger them to breed here. But regardless it sounds like it's relatively humid there even when they get a little dry during the harmattan (hot days and cool nights too).

......you talk smart too.....LOL....

I know all the good stuff but talk my way....
(punkazzed 70's head?)./......

anyways......yea...I am really thinking about the too wet tood ry thing...I know the pressure I personally cnanot change....dampness I can....I figure it is sooo dry in my room now and in summer I am pulling like 143% humidity I bet...LOL...

I try and keep the temps almost the same all year....water them the same...the top of racks actually dries out real fast....I am going to stop dumping water into the boxes for awhile anyways....

I flip the males all around,...even everyday if I see no action...(if he is near her and thinking I let him,,,if he is out looking, lazing,or soaking..he moves)....

good luck......and email me this year at the start of the hatching season ...or laying....you got so much stuff.....

Thanxx....have fun........
