I think i have scared my snake he wont come out of his hide and when he does he only pokes his head out then if i aproach the tank he goes bck in. can i get him to not be scared and how?

I am thinking you are relativily new to the snake hobby? This would pretty much be normal behavior for a snake. Snakes are easily stressed, especially if they are in a new cage, or envirenment. If the snake is new, then just leave him be for a while, and only handle him a few minutes here and there for a little while.

i am new to the hobby but i have had this snake from 3 weeks and he is now 20 this is the first time i have seen him act like this i have changed his enviroment added a few new things and gave him a bigger hide ect also i have changed the substrate from newspaper to wood shavings could any of the above affect him?

Bigger hides aren't better for Pits. They really prefer to feel secure and have it very snug. If you are using any kind of wood shavings you can lay a piece of bark on it and they will borrow under it to make a hide the size they want.

He's a Pit. Pits have personality aplenty, and that usually includes curiosity, which will translate to him poking his jead out especially once you establish a feeding regimen w/ him. Not to worry.
