don't know who all thinks this way (I didn't read any replies yet)

so...I'll do it....

you have a bedroom with ALOT of snakes and lizards......BIG snakes and lizards......and going to get BIGGER!!!

....heat lamps suck, small cages make non-excersised snakes (I should know)....and IF any of the boxes' lids are held down in place by weight....that is never good....

so......I would sugest....buy racks and cages for large boas and large pythons and some ball racks too.....buy the cages then buy the snakes.......

......not being mean or nasty....but ALOT of people do exactly this...they go and buy and buy and buy then say "I'll get bigger cages later as they grow " then keep buying stuff and never seem to get the cages.....maybe you will, maybe you will keep up with buying them the correct size...but this room looks really familiar to ALOT of people I bet....(and alot of people jusy take the stuff and sell it out so they don't have to get new cages, and say I'll get this new snake and the bigger cages later...later...later...(you get it)

so....Nice..thanxx.....take care and good luck....

my burm was 7 1/2 foot in one year, grew an inch a week and was 12 foot in 2 years without over feeding...retics get longer faster......bloods weigh like ? 25 pounds and more...boas grow like 3 foot a year.....
.
.have fun

I have o burmese pythons or anything like that. They retic I have is a dwarf. I do tend to go through some animals quickly and keep some for years and years. A lot of the larger snakes i have I bought bigger at lower prices and I will resell to different people. A lot of people do the same thing. they are fine. I feel very insulted. They have lamps and UTHs. They are not unhealthy. I'm sorry i posted this. I really don't think this is wrong. I really feel insulted. None of them are unhealthy.

I don't go through, or buy and say, "oh, i'll get cages later." I do check their temps and they are correct. They shed almost always full. I realize its crammed in my room, but if you look at the way some breeders (BHB comes to mind) they are not that deprived of space. If you have ever seen snakebytes and the way they have their burms and retics in tiny little racks. i used to have a rack for my mid sized (balls and younger snakes) but it was causing issue. I can't afford a freedom breeder. I can't help that.

I'm sorry i put this out there. i can't believe this is the response I got. i left repticzone because they were mean and disrespectful. I thought this would be better.

You just jumped conclusions and made me feel like a little kid who didn't know what they were doing.

jayefbe Dec 30, 2008 08:19 PM

Why are you buying snakes only to resell them later? Is that your sole purpose of purchasing snakes, to resell them? Why do you "tend to go through animals quickly"? Are you just a collector?

Helena1 Dec 30, 2008 08:46 PM

I have pets and I resell. i don't make a whole lot of money, but i have the resources to get the the shows (gas money) so i get things for people and sell them a little higher then i got them. It's not a big deal, i lot of people do it.

jayefbe Dec 30, 2008 11:52 PM

So these people can't afford to drive to a show, but can afford to buy from you? It just sounds like you're a flipper.

vcaruso15 Dec 31, 2008 06:21 AM

what is she is a "flipper" as you call it. What is the problem with making money off reptiles. I love it how some people get all high and mighty when someone wants to make some money from their animals. Sounds like people that got burned by the ball market crashing to me lol.

As far as the cages go I agree not to say this is what your doing but some people will buy animals but not want to spend money on proper caging as long as everything is kept in a good size cage with proper temps and humidity I see no problem at all.

Have fun with your animals and do what you want with them they are yours after all.

Helena1 Dec 31, 2008 08:42 AM

Thank you for being nice to me. I really appreciate it. What is a "Flipper?" I don't mean to sound dumb, but i like to know what people are calling me.

jyohe Dec 31, 2008 09:59 AM

buy sell buy sell buy sell...flipping the stock

Oh. i just explained that. I still don't see a problem with it.

Helena1 Dec 31, 2008 08:46 AM

can't afford to drive to a show, but can afford to buy from you?

Or don't have a car, don't have time, don't want to make the 3 and a half hour trip, there are loads of reasons. I have time, i don't mind the 3 and a half hour trip, and have money to get there. So I do it. It is not a big deal at all. They are not all pets to me, but, than at the same time, some of them are and I wouldn't sell them for anything.

dzbreptiles Dec 31, 2008 01:09 PM

There is nothing wrong with buying and selling animals. Its called the pet industry. If the animals are healthy and well taken care of then there is no problem. If they are dying and all sick then that's a problem. Is the set-up pictured ideal? Maybe not, but I do not judge a situation from just a picture. I remember my humble beginning with snakes some thirty years ago. Didn't look much different. Jeff

jayefbe Dec 31, 2008 02:46 PM

I have a problem with someone buying animals with the sole purpose of reselling them. Again, it is the pet industry, but I doubt this person has a registered business going on in her basement.

Emberball Dec 31, 2008 04:07 PM

Sounds like a kid buying reptiles to keep, look at, and when they get tired or see something they want more, sell? What is wrong with that? I wish I would have done it instead of that #$#% paper route at @@#$ 5am whan I was a kid.

Some of you are wound way too tight, and need to get a hobby. Obviously reptiles is no longer fun for you, and a hobby should be fun.

dzbreptiles Dec 31, 2008 05:13 PM

My point exactly Dave. Whats wrong with doing what you want if nobody or no animal gets hurt. And no not to tight just don't like seeing people getting ripped up for nothin'. I remember when people criticized you for the "Ember Ball" project not being proven before naming it or your pics or how often you posted the same ones over again. I supported you then because I didn't think it was fair and would do the same again. And now I don't think its fair to call the OP a "flipper" because she buys a few animals at shows to resell to people local to her. Jeff

P.S. Don't need another hobby we still love this one.

jyohe Dec 31, 2008 09:09 PM

anyone here have a registered tax number? ....

.........I hate the taxes I Have to pay out...and the use taxes , and the intrest therefrom.....

.....I know a whole lot of non taxed people making like up to 100G a year off "animals"....just animals....

and ask the PA lawmakers about "just animals" and puppy mills....

.....wait till they find out about "racks".......

dzbreptiles Dec 31, 2008 05:04 PM

Pretty simple for me. If you breed it and sell it or you buy it and sell it you are doing the same thing registered business or not. Making money from animals is what it is. For some its a hobby others its business. Buying, selling and trading is what makes this whole hobby and industry possible. If someone didn't buy snakes for the sole purpose of selling them (ie, importers) none of us would have these snakes in the first place. I don't know about you but I have never gone out in the field next to my house and picked up a Ball Python or a Burmese for that matter and I live in Florida. So you have a problem with people buying to sell then you have a problem. Its what this whole thing is based on. Jeff

jyohe Dec 30, 2008 08:54 PM

the burmese was MY snake ,I used it as an example because I know how they grow an inch a week from experience...dwarf retics can and will grow big......boas will grow 8 foot and fat as fat can be.....

I said I wasn't being mean or nasty

I said I cannot tell if the boxes' lids were secured with weight or how.....I see a 2 dimensional pic is all......

I agree alot of snakes can be put into less space...I do it...I have up to 400?? more???...snakes at summertime and they are all in an 11 x 11 room and they are all in their own cage or cup (corns)...

OK...so..cage in your room??...number 1- I cannot tell if it is snake or all wood...number 11 and 12 I can see the snake is too big.....sooo.......that's 2 or 3 for sure...

....I did not make you feel like a little kid......eating snow cones and blowing soap bubbles might do that?....I have no idea how old you are....don't care....age does not matter...

ALOT of people have rooms just like this and worse.....and alot of them do not take care of the stuff.......you do....good ...fine....

you do what you want.....if they are fed and warm....fine...good...

I just posted what I saw........

.......and I bet BHB has boa racks with eight foot tubs....?

....I like Brian......he's a nice guy....always been good to me .

......I use racks ....yes they are too small....but any tub is smaller than an African country....(or other country).

........smile....go find some iced cream....put some peanuts in it....?....the chewing will make you feel better..............

..have fun....

Ok so why are you feelling insulted? I didn't see anyone talking about unhealthy snakes. You say that you tend to go through some animals quickly and keep some for years and years, so if you have some of them for years that mean that you had time to buy or make a cage or rack for then. They didn't say that you had to go and get a freedom breeder or anything like that but you could go to http://northeastsnakes.com/racks.html and make it yourself. Hey one more thing how old is your bloot python.

Helena1 Dec 30, 2008 08:51 PM

I did have a home made one it was causing my snakes problems. So, i sold most of my animals that were that size.

I'm not trying to make a big thing, i just felt like i am being treated like a little kid that people think is way over their head.

i wasn't expecting that. i don't see a problem. thats all.

jyohe Dec 30, 2008 09:00 PM

home made rack....

??? particle board???....it may contain fornaldahyde(spell?)...

good to notice it was a problem

....

by the way...not many people in here love me...alot do not know me...they actually talk to me at shows and do not know it...it's fun that way...you get to hear things they wouldn't say if they knew who I was....anyways....I been around....and as said....I speak my mind....it's for the good...do not let it bother you....

just speak the truth....set awhile...

stay here....there are some smart people in here....alot more smarter people in the milksnake forum...just go ask them....LOL....I think they ignore me alot more than you feel it....(there are too many westerners in there...HA!.....)...

sorry milkheads....

Thank you for replying this way. i felt like I was being stepped on all over for entering a single photo when I felt like there was nothing wrong. i still feel that way.

jyohe Dec 30, 2008 09:36 PM

.....some snakes can take very little space and temps aren't an issue.....the boas I feel are not one of them...they need room and alot of heat.....and they are strong enough to get out of alot of cages....ask my sister in-law....her hubby had a boa...got out...she knew after she heard it in the wall...behind the paneling......after hurting herself trying to squeeze behind the panel for awhile they finally just ripped the sheet off the wall and got the snake...

just another dumb story with a little meaning to anyone that keeps big snakes......they are good at what they do....

...I use the example with non-snake people....

I ask them how much their dad or boyfriend, hubby whatever can lift or hit with one arm...?.....then I tell them...a human arm has one bicep that is like 6 inches long...imagine 2 of them muscles working together and they happen to be 6 feet long not inches....

anyways......

.............sleep , think, and look at your room a little bit...

....a little bit.....

You will get all kinds of opinions here, some good some bad. That room brings back memories of my early days.Enjoy what you do,buying and selling is a big part of this hobby that also turns into a business sometimes.Terry

Helena1 Dec 31, 2008 09:35 AM

Thank you! I really do enjoy it, i just don't understand why people on here are pissed at me for it. Almost everybody with a large collection does it at some point.

luvmyhydra Dec 31, 2008 10:31 AM

I really don't see a problem as long as the big guys get larger habitats as needed.

amador7872 Dec 31, 2008 03:15 PM

Hey i was talking about #12 he or she look big, #look like a baby. I want one but aren't to sure of it because i'll like a snake a can show, something i can do with ball. What was the problem with the rack you had? maybe someone can help you with that.

jpman78 Dec 31, 2008 09:22 AM

Alot of animals And some cool ones at that.

Pros/Cons of aquariums and tubs versus racks aside I think something that should probably be thought about a bit with your setup is that it might be a potential fire hazard.

Heat lamps and UTH everywhere, most of which is probably near flammable material. While maybe I'm mistaken it might be a good idea to reevaluate and just look at the safety of yourself and your animals in terms of potential for fire. It would be awful to lose such a diverse collection or worse yet have something happen to yourself.

Hope that helps.

It is a basement room, which does help. It's not at all furnished or drywalled. It concrete. I do agree, there are a lot on plugs and chords. Like i said. I would love to have a rack or just a stack of boaphiles, but I have had issues with the rack that I did have. So, yes, I know what a rack is, i had one, and it wasn't a good situation. but even with that, there was still a lot of chords with the flex watt that I had heating each level of it.

jpman78 Dec 31, 2008 10:15 AM

Not necessarily a rack but just a reorganization maybe and reassessment of where things are at. The cords by themselves aren't a big deal nor is the flexwatt, heatlamps, or UTH. It's really the other stuff that is "lying" around that holds potential for problems.

It's usually easiest and safest to have a "seperate" section of a room that is only herps and non-flamable items where there isn't a chance of a piece of paper catching or other flamable materials.

Just trying to help

I realize you are trying to help. I'm not offended. I think that side is pretty separate from the area i really live in. we are planning on b=doing some major slimming down by this summer, though. I mean huge reduction. Which will be hard b/c a lot of these animals I am very attached to. So, that will help a lot. The only problem is getting full value for all of the animals we have. i want both of the chameleons gone now, but that isn't really happening.
