Annulata or Campbelli?

Sinaloan Dec 31, 2008 07:04 AM

Hi All,

I've recently purchased a female "Annulata", However I have had my doubts. However this is a fair argument on both sides, being a Pueblan or a Mexican.

In terms of Tri-Bands, She has 20, Which points me in the direction of a Mexican.

From a first glance I can understand why people presume she is infact a Pueblan. Black tipping is not very common in Mexicans, Also not having the Black bands join on the ventral scales are doubting me.

I'd like your opinions, Obviously I would like to hear a Mexicans. However, Im not convinced, Seeing as you bunch are the Lampropeltis hardcores, I'll see what you say. Personally, Im thinking a Cross.

Not an expert but I will say it isn't a classic example of either form.

That is a a completely narcistocanibolizistic thing to say!

Agreed, Tony. The head markings are MORE characteristic of campbelli (the blotchy 'horse-shoe' on the snout), but it's certainly not what I'd call a classic example. It COULD be a captive intergrade between the two...

I don't see any annulata in that animal. I'm thinking close to if not 100% campbelli.

Sorry about the photographs, Not my handy work!

Thanks again.

You buy a snake at a reptile show you run the risk of getting a snake that has been altered in some way along the line with a mixed bloodline.I wonder how many dealers found the original snakes that their line came from.If your snake eats well and breeds well be happy.

Yes It Does. It does to me, I'm not interested in breeding crosses to others. Theres enough as it is. That wasn't what the thread was made for, Purely to identify it.
