Mice treated for mites...feeders??

ssnakes Dec 31, 2008 11:38 AM

A local pet store called me for advice. He found mites on his mice and treated them with a mite treatment containing pyretheium (sp). Now he wants to know how long until he can sell them as feeders to snakes?

I have looked over the net and I can't find any reference to such a topic. None of my snake books reference such a situation either. I'm inclined to say at least TWO WEEKS.....anyone have any experience or advice?

Thanks for any help!

I was told many years back by another pet store that it takes a month for the pyretherin to metabolize. At the time I had rodent mites and was supplying the pet store with feeders. I only treated individual breeder males, females and cages as they moved to an alternate location (other side of the garage) letting the moms, litters and feeders continue to have mites until they were all gone and the new location was up and running.
