blood and ball pythons in the same cage???

jsanborn40 Sep 09, 2003 02:12 PM

I would like to know if it would be alright if I raised a Blood and a Ball in the same cage. I know I am purchasing a baby Blood next week, and I am thinking about buying a baby Ball as well. Also I was wondering what the size difference is between an adult Blood vs. Ball. Any response is appreciated!!! Thanks

If the humidity is the concern, what about 2 bloods in one cage. I know all about seperateing them when they are fed and quarintine issues. i can afford seperate cages but I really like the look of two snakes in one cage. If it would really be harmful to the animals then I'll just put them in seperate tanks. I have two female red tail boas and although I have two cages I have kept them both in one for the past year and they have done great!

You got your first answer two posts down. As for the size question, female blood pythons (P. brongersmai) can get up to 6-7 feet (rarly bigger). Males get a bit smaller. I'm not too sure on the ball pythons but I think they can get 4-5 feet, might want to check somewhere else on that.
Hope this helps!

You can usually keep two snakes together without problems. The morelia family tends to be territorial as hell- and usually the python genus has no problem with cage mates. But it seems to me that the bloods are the one family that just freak out. You'll often go the reptile shops and see multiple snakes in the cage with no hides. Thats all wrong, and I would avoid it at all costs -especially with blood pitóns
