when are they considered adults?

1shedevil Jan 02, 2009 03:42 AM

Hello everyone,

Just wondering when exactly is a blood python considered adult?
my blood was abused before I got her and one of the things they did was try to starve the poor thing to death. She really took a growth spurt when I finally got her to eat rats . she is about 1 1/2 years old only about 30 inches long and weighs 1000 grams. Because of this can I expect her to be late hitting "adulthood' I know they never stop growing just slow down, is it possible that she will still hit her normal adult size? I can't seem to find an actual Growth chart to see where she is suppose to be in size and weight for her age. they say bloods get there adult colors and most of their size by age 2?

I would say adult size (aka breeding size) varies by individual and gender. Males can be as little as 5-6lbs or roughly 3kg and females are around 8-10lbs or roughly 4kg. These are extreme minimums and not what I would consider ideal size for breeding. Age to sexual maturity can very and feeding certainly influences growth, but you need a combination of age and size to be considered "adult" or "mature". Under optimum conditions I would expect males to begin maturity at 2-3 years and females around 3-4 years.
