well guess calling them hemipenal sheds would be more correct.
yes i have 2 girls that i could match him two, the girls in pictures before.
BUT, i havent cooled them, i dont really want to be producing 50% poss hypo hets
and i think the females would eat him He approx 1000grams (ok havent weighed lately, but thats my guess)
ahh i dont know, we will see
girls below

weighed the het hypo male last night, and he on 870 grams.
what is the minimum size weight to attempt breeding with a male?
also, are these hemipenal sheds, shown all year around, or just at this time of the
year, when its getting darker etc etc?
what the youngest you have seen aswell producing these sheds?

either way, i doubt i will breed him for at least a year, maybe 2. Want to weight till his girlfriend big enough

cheers

Dave,
....I have had males that small produce them. They do it mostly at this time of year through spring. I think they are analogous to "wet dreams". The little guy may be thinking alot about sex but he may or may not be producing viable sperm. The youngest male I have heard of producing viable sperm was 18 months old. I have never had a BRB breed at that age and only know of one occurence. My males mostly seem to be mature at 30 months though some of them not until a year later. 870 grams is probably just big enough though age is probably more important than size. Some other subspecies do mature earlier and of course at a much smaller size.

cheers for your comments jeff.
what im seeing into the bowl though, is it essentially sperm, or an actually shed? it look like a shed to me, but what confused me aswell was there was two rabbit eared looking pieces (best way to describe it), why is it not 2 strands, instead of essentially 4?

I have wondered the same exact thing. Only thought I have (based on nothing) is .....

How many testicles does a snake have? Would it make sense to think four? Two testicles per hemipene? Then I could see those as internal "sloughed off" linings (maybe with sperm?)

They were off him and in the water bowl?! LOL.
As far as I know, you can tell when a male is ready in many snakes when he develops sperm plugs and starts producing sperm.
Good luck!
