Breeding Macklott's?

snakeaddict77 Jan 03, 2009 02:13 AM

I have a female macklott's and will be getting a mate for her pretty soon. I was just wondering, how easy are they to breed? Does anyone have any tips for breeding them? I'm brand new to breeding snakes but i'm gonna try breeding my mock vipers this spring, so I won't be doing anything for probably another year. I just want to know as much as possible before hand.

Macks are not difficult to breed. They breed like most aussie pythons. It is extremely important to properly cool them though - for two reasons. #1 It is thought that the male needs this to help produce viable sperm and #2 to make sure the females feeding desire has been "turned off". I know of two times in the past 4 or 5 years that a male mack has become a snack to the female. One female eventually passed, the other is alive and well.. but it certainly put a damper on the breeding season.
