proportonal vs. on/off

squidlyjoe Jan 04, 2009 07:20 PM

Is proportional really the way to go? I was going to get one for my incubator but are they as vital as people make them seem for keeping ball pythons or are on/off thermostats fine?
Thanks

Proportional for racks for sure, and if you want to use a UPC or any type of power backup on your incubators, you'll need to use on/off thermostats. I use Herpstats for everyhting.

On/off is fine -- a little fluctuation in the rack is not going to be detrimental to your snakes.

We only use the on/off thermos, the Johnson Control units, for everything. Racks, heat tapes, heat panels, space heaters, incubators.

We have half a dozen large incubators running with them, and achieve terrific results. Pythons and lizards, all hatching great.

The only thing that doesn't hatch out well are boas, but, well, you know how that is...
