Colombian Rainbow Boa PICs

Jeff Clark Jan 05, 2009 01:29 AM

I got these two Colombian Rainbows, Epicrates cenchria maurus, in a trade last month. They are both just under 400 grams and look alike. I am guessing that they are siblings and were born in 2007. Like typical Colombians they eat like pigs.

Great looking sakes. I'll have to get some new pictures of my CRB and post them. How long did your female end up getting?

Tim,
...I measured? her today at 5 feet 7 inches. As you know they are very stout and hard to get straight enough to measure very accurately. She weighs 5 pounds 4 ounces. This is a typical size for an older female. The largest Colombianbs I have owned were just over 6 feet long.

They are very hard to get measured properly. I don't think I've ever got a consistent measurement of mine. She looks great though and so do the two new additions

Wow, those are beautiful, congrats on the nice pick up.

Just curious, when do they start to orange/brown up? Also,
baby Colombians seem to closely resemble baby Argentinians, at least in the pictures I've seen. Is it easy to tell the difference between a maurus baby and an alvarezi baby, just given separate pictures of each? How about in person? I would guess Colombians are girthier and longer??

Thanks for sharing,
Ed

Ed,
....Colombian babies look very much like plain dark Brazilian babies. They are much browner and less gray than baby Argentinians. Most Colombians turn out about the color of milk chocolate. Some of them do have some red tint mixed in. They lose much of the baby pattern during the first year.

I KNOW I am in the minority here, but I really like CRB's better. I just love 'em! Thanks for the great pics Jeff. The other one of your 20-year old is just fantastic too.

Tim21087 Jan 06, 2009 10:15 PM

I love them too. Brazilian are nice but a little too flashy for me. I prefer the simple beauty of Colombians.
