Belly heat; because ball pythons spend their entire lives on their bellies. A no-brainer if you ask me.

Belly, just like he said, another reason is the tubs don't touch the tape if you use back heat, or at least in mine they wouldn't. So I prefer the tubs sitting on the tape to the rear of the rack.

you know i never really understood why someone would want to heat the back on the tub???? warm air rises, I think back heat is such a waste of electricity.
unless you have a heated room at around 80 degrees i would only use UTH not back heat.

I use belly heat as well I was just wondering why it's even an option from some suppliers. Thanx a ton guys!

There are three possible reasons for using back heat for ball pythons:
1. Lazy.
2. Cheap.
3. Uneducated.

I have racks that use both back and belly heat. I find that they are both efficient. Back heat gives an even temp gradient, flush against the tub or not. But everyone else is right, belly heat is ideal. It's good for digestion, and especially good for babies (I'm told). Either way, I don't think you can really go wrong (as long as you have a good thermostat and temp gun, of course). But belly heat is indeed ideal.
