Hello

I have a jungle carpet python. He is about 6 years old. Around 8 feet long and a wonderful pet. He only tried to bite me once when he was around 3 feet long and it was my fault. He was in feeding mode.

I can basically handle him anytime, even when he is in shedding mode, but I don't. Just leave him alone till he sheds. He likes to hang out on his branches and little shelf I made for him. Other times he likes to be in his big round hide area.

I've read baby carpets are biters and some carpets can be hard to get into feeding rats. "Safari" is a great pet. I got him at a local shop and the previous owner was a school teacher so he was handled by kids alot I was told.

i have a of coastals that are about a yr old and have not had a bite yet.

buy a baby handle it often learn to read your snake(ie tell what mode its in feeding defensive currious etc) and just be mindfull of it.

most of the carpets i've had over the yrs have been a bit of a problem getting out of the cage but once they are out they have no problems.

this is a result of the amazing feeding response these guys have you open cage they think food.

these coastels are the only sub 2 yr olds that i have owned that do not show this tendancy.

now watch i will go open the cages tonight and get nailed.

oh and you can keep evan fairly aggressive species with kids around my son is almost 5 and has been snakes most of his life.

Do you know any good breeders???

When I first got mine she was very nippy. I would pick her up and she would bite a couple of times, but would calm down quickly. She was small and almost never broke the skin. Very few times did she even draw blood. As she has grown and gotten accustomed to being handled she grew out of this (in less than a month). Now she is a great snake and would never bite, unless you are a rat then you don't stand a chance

As far as feedings go I was warned that it can be a hassle to switch them to rats but I had no trouble at all with mine.

Most carpets are very very nippy as babies however most grow out of this stage some take longer than others.
As far as good breeders, well theres a few, A. Capontetto, Will Leary, Dave Prada, Jason Baylin and Im sure there are many more, Just look around.

As far as feeding goes, there pretty much garbage disposals very fast garbage disposals that just want more

I hope you enjoy your new carpet, I would suggest a Bredli or a Irian Jaya for a starter carpet, Stay smaller easier to manage as adults.
