Honduran Breeding size?

RoscoP Jan 05, 2009 04:55 PM

Hi, just wondering what's considered the minimun length and/or weight for hondurans to breed at? Are Hondurans prone to problems(egg binding or anything else) if bred too small?

Mine are 42" and filling out nicely(2006 babies), so I am waiting another year(about a meal a week, sometimes more often), but I am curious and have been unable to find much on this. I am far more concerned about the longetivity of the adults than makin' babies.
Thanks

I'd make sure they're at least 3 feet. 3-1/2 feet or more would be better. I've seen more eggbinding from large, overweight snakes than from small ones. Thomas Davis has a great article in the latest issue of "Reptiles" magazine on breeding Hondurans that you might want to check out.

Your Hondurans are at a size and age where they can be bred this year.
