Plywood for snake racks?

petie11o5 Jan 05, 2009 06:45 PM

Hey everyone I know its been a while since I have posted; hopefully everyone had a good holiday, but I have a question. I was going to build some racks out of wood and I was wondering if plywood is bad for the snakes? If I ever get them built I will post some pictures lol. Any help and advice is appreciated.

And the rainbows are doing great. I will post some pics soon.

Thanks in advance,
Pete

Lower grades of plywood will be hard to seal. You need a smooth surface for the polyeurathane to adhere to/fill voids. And would need to apply finish to shelves BEFORE assembly. Also, tub rubbing might wear through finish over time???

One solution for the humidity problem would be laminating the underside of shelves with formica. Maybe a local cabinet shop might have scraps you could sweet talk them out of for a good price? Telling the story of what they wold be used for could go a looooong way towards getting them cheap with the right person.

Yeah I had a plan for the humidity, I was going to cover all the plywood with this thick plastic. It is kind of like a sheet of thick plastic. I was just using the plywood to sturdy the shelves. Thanks for the ideas though, I just wasn't sure if plywood had anything in it that could harm the snakes.
