question about food variety

somegirl Sep 09, 2003 03:59 PM

as far as greens go, is it raelly important health-wise to give a wide variety? everytime i go to the grocery store i forget to print out the list of what's dragon safe but even so, i dont think there's too great of a variety there. mine eat collard greens and kale every day without seeming to get bored with it. but im starting to wonder if its ok to feed them just this with something else mixed in occassionally (i just bought cilantro and raspberries, but i didnt notice the berries were already molding, so theyre just gonna get to try some cilantro). thanks in advance

My beardies love a variety of things in their salads. Here's a list of what I often use as filler or as a treat (once in a while)and the calcium to phosphorus ratio is after the food item for you...

shredded carrots 1:1.7
bell peppers (red, orange, or yellow) 1:2
arugula 3:1
apple 1:1.8
papaya 5:1
mango 1:1
pineapple 2:1 (canned)
green beans 1.4:1
cilantro 1.4:1
blackberries 1.5:1
raspberries 2:1
strawberries 1:1.4
cantaloupe 1:1.5
grapefruit 1.2:1
cactus pads 2.3:1
oranges (navel) 2:1
peppermint leaves 3.3:1 (easy to grow in your backyard)
spaghetti squash 2:1

I hope this helps you out next time you go to the grocery store. Most of these items are readily available and some can be purchased canned or frozen like green beans and pineapple.
