Hi all:
Can anyone recommend a good frog for a beginner? I would like to some research about the captive care of frogs but before I do I would like to know of a good "starter frog" Thanks for all the great help.

Whites tree frogs, Horned frogs, african bullfrogs, firebellied toads, african clawed frogs, and green tree frogs. There is a list of a few. I have a couple of them on my site, the reptizone, if you want to check out their requirements. For the others, you can search the forum or run a search on google. Andy

I would definately say leopard frogs. They will eat just about anything, even other smaller sized frogs. They are heavy eaters, they will eat almost any chance they get. They get big and fat. Just catch flies outside and throw it in. They don't require much heat, just a bit of water, light, and mild temperatures. They are also very cheap. What else do you want for a beginner. These frogs are also very fun to have. They run after your fingers when you wiggle it. They're smart too, I had one live inside my house, escaped, for a week. He just went to the tub or sink when he need moisture and ate the bugs around the house. He ate my bull frogs (5) lol. I feed him like 30 giant red eye flies everyday.
If you don't like this you have a problem. I'm suing.
Most leopards are loaded with parasites...if you get a leopard it should go to a vet right away for a stool sample and parasite treatement. Andy

I don't think leos are good beginner frogs because they're too skittish and need a lot of space. If you can provide a large and quiet environment, that would be different, but I don't think most beginners would.
